The DIGI4ECO project was featured at GrafanaCON 2026, one of the leading global conferences on observability, monitoring, and data visualization technologies.
During the presentation, titled ” titled “Building a digital twin of the ocean: 4D ecological monitoring with robotics, AI-powered analytics, and Grafana“, Jacopo Aguzzi and Enoc Martínez showcased how DIGI4ECO integrates data collected from fixed and mobile robotic platforms, including cabled observatories, autonomous crawlers, and environmental sensing systems, to monitor marine ecosystems with unprecedented temporal and spatial resolution.
A central focus of the session was the use of Grafana as the front-end platform for visualizing and managing complex marine data in real time. Interactive dashboards presented during the session showcased oceanographic time series, acoustic profiles, AI-powered species detection, underwater imagery, biodiversity indicators, and infrastructure monitoring tools, demonstrating how observability technologies can bridge marine science, robotics, and environmental policy.
A key part of the session focused on the OBSEA underwater observatory, which has been operating continuously for 17 years within a Natura 2000 protected area. The presenters showcased the technological infrastructure behind the platform, including PostgreSQL, TimescaleDB, ERDDAP, and Grafana as the main visualization and observability layer.
The participation at GrafanaCON 2026 provided an important opportunity to showcase DIGI4ECO’s innovative technological framework to an international audience of developers, researchers, engineers and data specialists.
