We are thrilled to share that DIGI4ECO project, represented by ICM – CSIC, was presented at “The Future of Marine Biodiversity Monitoring” workshop. The event held on 5-7 November 2024, in Sitges, Spain.
This workshop was an initiative of the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre (JRC) and ACTeon Environment Research and Consultancy to discuss and evaluate future avenues and potential novel approaches to monitor marine biodiversity within a regional, European and global framework.
Around 70–80 participants from various sectors, including scientists, national managers, and EU policy representatives, collaborated to identify current gaps and challenges in marine biodiversity monitoring. Together, they worked on proposing solutions for data collection and processing that align with policy requirements, aiming to ensure the seamless integration of data and knowledge into informed policy decisions.
During the event, DIGI4ECO project was presented and its objectives, too. Furthermore, a 30- minute discussion panel titled “AI/Imaging” took place and its goal was to debate the potential integration of such tools in biodiversity monitoring programmes.
